Athens has become one of the most exciting shopping destinations in Europe, blending international fashion with local creativity. From contemporary malls and concept stores to stylish boutiques and vibrant shopping streets, every neighborhood has its own personality. Browse for handcrafted Greek treasures in Plaka, discover the latest collections on Ermou Street, or indulge in luxury labels in Kolonaki. And the best part? The experience goes far beyond shopping — it’s about exploring the city through its style, discovering new favorites, and soaking up Athens’ ever-evolving fashion scene, from the city centre to the suburbs.

Opening Hours 
With the exception of popular tourist areas such as Plaka, most shops in Athens remain closed on Sundays and public holidays. A few businesses, including flower shops, patisseries and liquor stores, may still be open. Standard shopping hours are typically 10:00‑21:00 on weekdays and 10:00‑18:00 or 20:00 on Saturdays. However, many smaller, family-run businesses continue to follow more traditional opening hours, closing after 15:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and taking an afternoon break between 14:30 and 17:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Where to shop 
Downtown is the place to be, whether you are looking for brand names or small vintage shops and second-hand stores.Plaka The foremost tourist area, is the standard place to buy memorabilia. Nearby Monastiraki, home to a famous Athenian flea market. Visitors will lose themselves in a huge variety of shops that appeal to aficio‑nados of records, jewellery, clothes, shoes and all things vintage. This is an area in which haggling is accepted by the playful and friendly shop owners. Between Monastirakisq. and Omonia sq., one comes across the Athens Central Market, a good place to buy some local herbs. Ermou street is by far the most celebrated shopping street: a pedestrian street with large windows and a great variety of goodies, from clothes and jewellery to shoes and gifts. But when it comes to expensive brand shopping, Kolonaki is the perfect place to be. Luxury clothing, high prices and impeccably dressed customers are the norm here. If you have time to kill, have a look at the interesting markets of Kifissia (northern suburbs) and Glyfada (southern suburbs). Try to do your shopping in the morning and on weekdays. It is less busy. You will come across all the major international brands on Voukourestiou Str.
