You may have heard—someone told you, or you read it somewhere—that Black Duck is an artistic hangout. And it is, but in a way that's quite unlike most places in the city. Art isn’t just something on the walls at Black Duck—it’s at the heart of everything. It’s not used as décor or a mood enhancer; it simply emanates from every corner, like a natural spring that’s always been there. It’s a feeling you get the moment you enter this magical, almost hidden garden (nothing hints that Stadiou Street is just a breath away), from the moment you start observing the space and all its elements: the statues (part of the collection of the adjacent Museum of the City of Athens) in the restaurant hall, the original artworks (from Black Duck’s own renowned Art Gallery) rising from behind the bar up to the ceiling, the music that’s always thoughtfully chosen.
Now in its 17th year, Black Duck has made a permanent home inside the Museum of the City of Athens, which once served as its summer residence. Despite its age, it never rests on its laurels. On the contrary, it’s constantly dreaming up new ways to refresh its nest. And it remains, unmistakably, an artistic hub—something that likely won’t change, no matter how many years go by, for all the reasons mentioned above.

This year too, Black Duck is our go-to destination after the theater—not just because it enhances everything we feel after a performance, but because it offers something for every taste. Want a bottle of wine paired with well-crafted bar food? Prefer a cocktail—or better yet, a “duck tail” signed by the acclaimed mixologist Mary Talaiporou? Or are you in the mood for a full, comforting dinner? Whatever you're craving, Black Duck has it ready.
All of this in its unique indoor space or outside in the covered and heated garden, where DJs set the rhythm early in the evening, sure to get you dancing to nostalgic ‘80s and ‘90s tunes. Just be sure to make a reservation before the show starts—so your table, bar seat, or cozy spot will be waiting for you afterward.
At Black Duck, be sure to try—if you haven’t already—the wild mushroom risotto, the beef tagliata with blackberry sauce, and the “duckgroni,” a fascinating twist on the classic negroni.
