Ithaki

Where to swim

The best beaches are only accessible by boat. Gidaki features crystal clear waters and soft pebbles much like Platis Gialos although there it is often windy. Loutsa is more family friendly. There is also Agouli with white pebbles, Dexia bay near Vathi and Afales spreading in three subsequent coves. Frikes are relatively touristic and busy. In the north of the island you will find the tiny beaches Katsikouli, Sarakiniko and Filiatro – home of the free campers. More beaches: Polis, Aspros Gialos, the one at Schinos cove, Marmakas and the little coves at Kourvoulia.

Where to eat

At Vathi there are the tavernas Kantouni, Kochili and Seirines for mezes. At Chani at the center of the island you will have a view of both sides of the Ionian Sea. Finally at Kioni, go to Kalypso on the marina.

Nightlife

At Vathi got to bar Katoi or Niko's crepe house to listen to jazz music and occasionally enjoy a live concert in the beautiful gardens. The islands's well kept secret though is at Kioni and is called Spavento. This is a wild place combining the aspects of an island bar and traditional coffee house, playing cuban music – and generally speaking ethnic beats – while at night it is transformed to a jazz bar – playing Miles, Prestige and better.
