Greece looks forward to an extended tourist season. “We want tourism 12 months a year”, said Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura while speaking at a recent Economist Conference in Athens, noting the ministry’s efforts to attract more projects, attract new target tourism markets, such as China, Brazil, Canada, Korea and the Middle East, and strengthen alternative forms of tourism to stimulate local economies. “Greece aims to be among the top five most popular countries in the world”, said Elena kountoura, pointing out that, for the first time, leading international tour operators have extended the vacation days they offer in Greece to 210 days from 185.
