Pistachio Festival in Aegina

Make plans for a “still summer” weekend getaway to the beautiful island of Aegina. The 7th annual Pistachio Festival is about to begin. It was seven years ago when the people of Aegina decided to give their “proud-and-joy” product, the pistachio or widely known “fistiki Aeginis”, the recognition it deserved. They organized a festival dedicated to pistachio that soon became an institution and one of the major and much anticipated cultural events in the Saronic Gulf.  The 7th annual Aegina Pistachio Festival kicks off on September 24 and until the 27th the island’s most precious commodity will be on the spotlight through various events and activities both locals and visitors will definitely enjoy. A stroll around the kiosks at the festival’s trade fair introduces visitors to the pistachio’s cultivation, its variations in imaginative gastronomy, sweets and liqueur-making, the pottery, arts and crafts-making inspired by its unique shape and texture. The dance groups, the musical and theatrical shows add extra “flavor” to the festival, while children will enjoy fairytales narrations, music and dancing, interactive and experiential games. An artistic cheer spreads around the island during the festival. Yards, gardens, halls, streets are decorated with works of painters, sculptors, photographers and potters, while exhibitions such as the “Artists Tour” and the contemporary ceramics exhibitions at the Archaeological Museum and Aegina’s traditional fish market fuses the atmosphere with more colors. Not to be missed.
