New coastal development bill stirs controversy

Greek Environmental groups are turning against the draft bill on coastal development prepared by the Greek government, according to which a number of restrictions currently apply on the maximum area designated for beach concessions, will be lifted, abolishing the right to free public access to coasts. The measures proposed would also make way to permanent constructions on beaches for commercial purposes. On the same account, businessmen could legalize unlicensed constructions by paying a fine.
