There is something undeniably enchanting about summer in Athens. As the city softens beneath star-filled skies, rooftop terraces, leafy courtyards and hidden corners take on an entirely different character, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening for two. Whether it's a first date, an anniversary, or simply a night dedicated to someone special, the setting matters just as much as the food. From intimate spots tucked away in the heart of the city to idyllic restaurants overlooking the Acropolis or the shimmering coastline, Athens offers no shortage of memorable dining destinations for romantic summer evenings.
We've rounded up seven restaurants where exceptional cuisine, captivating surroundings and just the right amount of romance come together to make your next date night one to remember.
Abra Ovata
Set against the extraordinary natural beauty of Lake Vouliagmeni, Abra Ovata feels like a place suspended somewhere between reality and myth. Nestled beside the lake's striking limestone cliffs, the restaurant takes its name from the rare Abra Ovata shell, said to exist only in the waters of this remarkable natural landmark. As dusk settles, the illuminated rock formations are mirrored in the lake's glass-like surface, transforming the setting into one of the most atmospheric dining experiences on the Athenian Riviera; a wonderfully romantic destination for lingering summer evenings. In the kitchen, Executive Chef John Skotidas presents a Mediterranean menu infused with vibrant Latin American and Asian influences, balancing familiar flavours with inventive technique. Standout dishes include a contemporary take on the classic Athenian crab salad, delicately fresh sea bass ceviche, spicy mussels, and the restaurant's signature seafood paella served with silky aioli. A thoughtfully selected wine list and an excellent variety of refreshing cocktails make lingering over dinner all the more tempting. Save room for dessert. The Paris-Brest, filled with airy choux pastry and a cooling pistachio cream, provides a fittingly indulgent finale, one that may well become the evening's most memorable romance.

Ntiva
Housed in one of the most elegant garden residences in Athens' northern suburbs, Ntiva sets the scene for the kind of summer date night that lingers long after the evening ends. Occupying the former home of Kefalari's legendary Cash -once synonymous with glamorous parties and Athenian nightlife- the restaurant has breathed new life into the historic mansion while preserving its timeless charm. Having made its seasonal move from Kolonaki to Kifissia, Ntiva unveils a lush summer garden where mature trees, soft lighting and an air of understated elegance create one of the city's most enchanting al fresco dining settings. Chef and co-owner Dimitris Katsanos presents a menu with a distinctly modern bistro sensibility, combining refined comfort with confident flavours. Begin with the bright lemon-cured tartare or Iberico pork gyoza, followed by crisp fries topped with succulent flap steak. Among the standout mains are the shrimp orzotto, a beautifully marbled ribeye, golden-crusted schnitzel and an impressively generous scorpionfish, prepared with the kitchen's signature finesse.
Dessert is every bit as tempting. The profiterole, filled with airy choux pastry and pistachio cream, is a house favourite, while the refreshing lemon tart offers the perfect finish to a warm summer evening, though ordering both is a decision few are likely to regret.

Il Giardino Segreto
Hidden above the elegant courtyard of Alexander's Lounge at Hotel Grande Bretagne, Il Giardino Segreto lives up to its name. Perched on the first floor, this secluded garden feels worlds away from the bustle of Syntagma Square. Surrounded by fragrant flowers, leafy greenery and the gentle rustle of trees, it's a peaceful retreat where the sounds of the city fade into the background, making it one of Athens' most charming settings for a leisurely summer date.
Here, Executive Chef Asterios Koustoudis and his team celebrate the effortless pleasures of the Italian table with a menu that pays tribute to one of the country's most beloved ingredients: the tomato. Refreshing aperitivi set the tone, followed by crisp seasonal salads, rustic bruschette, freshly made pasta dressed in vibrant tomato sauces and artisanal pizzas topped with premium cheeses and cured meats, sliced to order.
The finale is every bit as memorable. Pastry Chef Alexandros Koufas brings a refined touch to classic Italian desserts, from a delicate Armenonville with fresh parfait to velvety tiramisu and authentic gelato -an irresistible ending to a balmy Athenian evening.

Zohós
Tucked within the flourishing garden of Electra Palace Athens, Zohós is one of those rare places that make you forget you're in the heart of the city. Named after the wild edible greens known as zohós, the restaurant is enveloped by lush planting and vibrant blooms, creating a tranquil oasis where long summer dinners unfold at an unhurried pace.
Chef Sakis Venetis reimagines the spirit of the Greek table through a contemporary menu built around the idea that sharing is caring. Colourful seasonal salads, beautifully crisp saganaki and meltingly tender roasted aubergine invite guests to begin with an array of meze before moving on to dishes such as grilled octopus with fava from the island of Schinoussa, stuffed squid, fluffy herb meatballs, artisanal Greek sausage and slow-cooked kid goat from the island of Kimolos, prepared in the traditional gastra oven. Familiar flavours are elevated with thoughtful technique while remaining deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition.
The drinks menu is equally enticing, featuring refreshing signature cocktails -the aptly named Zohós is a must- as well as a selected wine list showcasing both distinguished Greek labels and international favourites. End the evening with a classic Greek orange pie served alongside ice cream, the perfect sweet finale to an unforgettable meal.

Artisanal
Each summer, one of Kifissia's best-loved dining destinations unveils Keepos by Artisanal, a seasonal garden concept whose name playfully combines the Greek word for "garden" (kipos) with the idea of wanting to linger just a little longer. Tucked behind a stately mansion, the space is an elegant retreat of abundant greenery, soft earthy tones and a beautifully restored orangerie crowned by its distinctive glass-and-metal roof. As daylight fades, it becomes one of the northern suburbs' most inviting settings for an unhurried date night, where chilled cocktails, refined cuisine and an effortlessly relaxed atmosphere define the evening.
Patron Chef Giannis Parikos presents a menu rooted in what he describes as fine comfort food; familiar flavours elevated with precision and creativity. Seasonal salads, delicately prepared tartares and charred carrots sit alongside the restaurant's much-loved patatotto, a wonderfully creamy potato interpretation of risotto that has become something of a signature. Seafood dishes and premium cuts of meat ensure there's something to suit every palate, all prepared with an emphasis on exceptional ingredients and understated finesse. An excellent wine selection and expertly crafted cocktails provide the perfect accompaniment, while the restaurant's beautifully executed desserts offer a fittingly indulgent finale. It is the kind of place where conversation lingers as long as the summer evening itself.

To Treno sto Rouf
Few settings rival the romance of dinner beneath the stars on the platform of a historic railway station. For years, To Treno sto Rouf has been one of Athens' most distinctive destinations for summer date nights, offering an experience that feels delightfully cinematic from the moment you arrive.
Set within the historic Rouf Railway Station, the venue is far more than a restaurant. A beautifully restored train has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, home to dining spaces, a bar and a year-round programme of theatre performances, live music and artistic events. It is a place where travel, nostalgia and contemporary Athenian culture come together in an unexpectedly enchanting setting.
When summer arrives, the experience extends onto the station platform, where the Open-air Bar & Restaurant comes to life beside the softly illuminated railway carriages. As evening falls and the vintage train glows under the night sky, it's easy to imagine you've stepped into the scene of a classic romance.
