1st Mykonos Art Festival

During the summer of 2018, the Cultural Organization “G. Axiotis” of the Municipality of Mykonos will be hosting the 1st Mykonos Art Festival. The aim of this new institution is to create an annual cultural event of the highest level and quality, worthy of the reputation and special position of Mykonos as a unique international destination. A further ambition of the Festival is the “rebranding”ofthis cosmopolitan island destination as an important center for the arts and culture, as a point and place of reference for aesthetic and avantgarde expression. Featuring a wide variety of: concerts, art exhibitions and installations, film screenings, theatrical performances, literary evenings and culinary events, the Mykonos Art Festival aims to become an annual fixture in the internationally art-festival circuit. Intheprocess, the Festival will give visitors a chance to experience the whole range of contemporary art, the cultural heritage of utopian Delos nearby and the unique culture and traditions of the island of Mykonos. And finally, it will provide an additional, different incentive for people to visit Mykonos, adding something special to the island’s already stellar portfolio of attractions. The Mykonos Art Festival will raise the profile and allure of Mykonos in the eyes of the world, filling a void in the island’s offerings to its cultured visitors, from both Greece and abroad.

The goals of the proposed Festival – an annual international event – are several:

The creation of a cultural event and institution of the highest caliber, worthy   of Mykonos’ reputation as a high-end international destination.

The showcasing and promotion of the island’s culture and local traditions, in combination with its international image and orientation.

The development of an additional reason to visit Mykonos and the addition of another strong attraction to its tourism portfolio.

The Festival’s programme covers the full range of contemporary art, focusing primarily on: music, film, theatre and the visual arts.

The Festival addresses the local residents of the island as well as Greek and foreign visitors and aims to appeal to all ages, including children.
